Features of Al Muhaddith Programs

Al Muhaddith Search Program

Prayer Times Program

New Version (V 10.10) of "Al Muhaddith Search Program".

Asterisks* denote new features for this version.

  • Easy installation

  • Faster startup*:
In all previous versions, program used to spend about a minute on start-up (while examining files). This is in addition to the "re-indexing" time required (see next bug-fix below).
Now this examination takes only about a couple of seconds.
It still takes about a minute when running for the first time after installation, or after downloading a new book; after that and in all subsequent runs of the program, the start-up will only require about a couple of seconds.

  • "REINDEXING" BUG SOLVED*:
In most previous versions, the program required re-indexing of all files, which would take hours (on each start-up!!!)
Now this bug has been fixed wal-hamdulillaah:
    As mentioned above
(under: Faster Startup), the program now takes only about a few seconds to start-up (in usual runs, i.e. except after installation of the main program, or after downloading new books), and does not require re-indexing on each start-up.

  • Flexible shortcut options:
    Desktop / System Tray

  • Uninstall
Available from program's "Help" and from Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs
    " *

  • Refined Live-Update:
    On demand, or automated.

  • Fast Search:
    A normal search in all
books (hundreds of volumes) usually completes in less than 30 seconds on most machines.

  • Powerful Search Options:
    One or more phrases
    And/Or, etc.

  • Dictionary Style search:
Your word is used to generate several search words, and search among various lexicons: Dictionaries, biographies, etc.

  • Mouse-Move Search:
Move the mouse over any word and view its definition from Lexicons/Dictionaries almost instantaneously.

  • Flexible Options for Dictionary Style search and Mouse-Move Search:
One click in the Dictionary options allows you to select or remove one or all available lexicons, or select only "grammatical" Lexicons or remove them (in one click), or "Historical" lexicons, or Hadeeth related Dictionaries... etc.
All subsequent searches will follow these options for Dictionary Style Search or Mouse-Move search.
More than that: By selecting/ removing single or groups of lexicons (in one click) as described above, you are also affecting their ordering.
So if you are mainly interested today in understanding hadeeths:
    - You start - in the Dictionary Options screen - by "unselecting" all lexicons (in one mouse click)
    - Then with a mouse click you select all Hadeeth related dictionaries - Al Nihayah, etc. - (now they will be the first ones searched and the first displayed)
    - Then with another mouse click you select normal Dictionaries (including al Fayrouz Abazi, Lisan al Arab, etc).
    Now your Dictionaries are "Hadeeth-Smart":
Whether you perform a normal Dictionary Search (F2 or double click on a word) or a mouse-move search, the first results displayed are from the Hadeeth Dictionaries then from the normal Dictionaries.
Finally, for Dictionary Style search (F2 or Double Click) you can also select the option to display normal Dictionary entries first:
The program will display FIRST the results where your search word is at the top of the result (at your option, how much near the top). Such results will be displayed first
Then the results will show, where your search word appears within the "body" of the results and not near the top:
So even in the cases when you do not obtain the "formal definition" of the word, you will still be able to understand how it is used "in context".

  • Simultaneous Searches:*
While program is performing a normal search, you can perform simultaneously* a "dictionary" style search from the main menu (F2).
    Explanation:
    Before completing a
"normal" search, when the program starts finding results, it immediately displays them on the "results screen" (so as not to keep you waiting for all the remaining results).
At that time (i.e. while the "normal" search continues) you can double click on any word to perform a simultaneous* Dictionary style search.
Also, you can move the mouse over any word on the results screen, and view a brief description from the dictionaries simultaneously*, without interrupting the "normal" search.

  • Several Azhan and Suras

  • Startup with Windows, or not.

  • Flexible shortcut options:
    Desktop / System Tray

  • Uninstall
Available from program's "Help" and from Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs
    " *

  • Refined Live-Update:
    On demand, or automated.

  • Attractive and flexible "Roll-Up" window for Azhan:*
Small window, moving "up" from the lower right corner, in the new XP style.
If you selected to allow pre-Azhan warnings, this window remains (until you click it).
if you did not select to allow pre-Azhan warnings, this window will roll down in a few seconds.
Are frustrated by XP style windows that disappear without having the chance to read them? Our window rolls down slower.
More than that; just move the mouse over it (while it is slowly rolling away) and it will roll back up, waiting for your next choice:
Keep your mouse over the window to maintain it, click the window to close it, or click the "speaker" icon to stop the sound.
Does this roll-up window get in the way of your right "auto-hide" tool bar" (if you have one)? Simply drag it left or right.
Personal note, from one of the programmers:
I usually select the option to "Always Maintain Roll-Up Screen".
A few days after adopting this choice, I became surprised to sense a kind of  affection to that "object", lurking there unobtrusively, at the bottom corner of my field of vision, while I would be working on just any task, whereby I became able to know about the next prayer with a simple "glance of the eye", any time I desired.
I wondered if I should be embarrassed with such an emotion toward an inanimate object, until the words of our Prophet PBUH came to mind: "Uhud is a mountain that loves us, and which we love too".
I hope you will get the same benefits from that small window at the bottom corner of the screen.

  • Excellent Atomic Time feature:*
Note: If the details below seem involved, just request "I want program to adjust clock"; our features are much more difficult to read about, than to benefit from!
So you have a Prayer Times program, but is your clock correct? How about your date? How about your city
: Did the Daylight-Savings period start, or not yet, or does your city not even use Daylight-Savings?
We listened to all your suggestions and provided our outstanding Atomic Time feature, where your system clock can be automatically adjusted to the highest possible precision of the international Atomic Clocks. Several Prayer Times programs within the same office can be heard performing the Azhan at almost the same second. Better than Windows XP, our Time Adjustment is adjustable by you: How often to adjust the time? Every month/s, every week/s, every hour/s, every minute/s and/or at startup? Never adjust? Ask you or not before adjusting? What is the maximum adjustment to apply without asking you?
    ... ... ...
Our program also succeeds in countries where Windows XP fails because we reach the Atomic Clocks through HTTP, the normal internet communication method, while Windows uses other methods that are prevented by many firewalls of some countries Internet Service Providers.
Furthermore, also unlike Windows XP, which adjustment are unknown (was my clock adjusted? when? how much was the adjustment?), our attractive Roll-Up window informs you each time any adjustment is performed, then disappears automatically in a few seconds - unless your mouse moves over it.
Finally, Our Atomic Time feature checks not only your System time, but also checks your System date*. Thus if you installed Windows and set the time, but made a mistake by choosing AM instead of PM, or by choosing a wrong date; once our program starts, it will recognize your error and bring it to your attention - if your options allow it to do so.

  • Automatic Time Zone adjustment:*
First, here is the description of an actual example, illustrating the advantages of this feature and its ease of use:
A few weeks ago, I took my notebook from Dubai to Madinah when I went for Hajj
    والحمد لله.
Once in Madinah, I needed to change the city for my Prayer Times Program, so I clicked Locations / Select.
As soon as I selected "Medina", the program informed me (correctly) that the Riyadh Time Zone is "more appropriate" for the newly selected city, than System's current Time Zone, and it offered me 3 choices:
    - Select the Riyadh Time Zone (and apply it to the Operating System)
    - Let me to perform the Time Zone adjustment myself (by opening my Operating System's appropriate screen)
    - Do not change anything.
I clicked the first option: This immediately corrected the Time Zone for my whole System, including Prayer Times Program, which adjusted its clock (adding one hour).
The reverse happened when I returned to Dubai: I just selected "Dubai", then clicked the first option (as described above) and I was "set to go".
    More details about this feature:
Our program recognizes and abides by the Time Zone* that you selected in Windows' Regional Settings.
Thus if you chose your region as GMT Time Zone (or Eastern Standard Time Zone, or Arabian Time Zone, or Egypt Time Zone); subsequently when the specific dates occur, if they require any Time adjustment (due to your Time Zone's specifications), our program will automatically adjust its prayer times calculations accordingly.
Also, if you request a location, our program recognizes whether or not it is indeed located geographically in your Regional Settings' Time Zone. So when or if you chose a city (in our Program) that belongs to another Time Zone, our program immediately presents flexible options to correct the situation (as illustrated in the above example).
